"Quando passas por mim" - Idiot Queen - Idiot Queen
Idiot Queen ist great. Here’s a description: Born in the United Kingdom of Portuguese parents, Dawn Mendonça is an artist who has experimented with painting, photography, writing and music.
Musically, Dawn expresses herself through the alter ego Idiot Queen, a monicker under which she explores electronic sounds, experimenting with collage, dissonance and repetition.
Her songs are slow and sombre and are built around electronic loops mixed with samples of acoustic instruments, creating repetitive structures and simple, sometimes almost childlike, melodies.
Dawn’s voice speaks and whispers more than it sings, and, sometimes, Laurie Anderson, Anne Clarke or Antye Greie (AGF) come to mind. Love and loss, the absurd and the divine are the broad themes Dawn-as-Idiot Queen explores in this release for MiMi Records.
Bill Rivers and Frederic Choudin lend their voices to the tracks “The Sun Will Set and Never Rise” and “Amour”, respectively.
